Molten Chocolate Lava Cake

Rich, chocolatey, and ooey gooey. Chocolate lava cakes are my go-to dessert for Valentine’s Day.

Who can resist a little personal sized chocolate cake that when cut into, yields a flow of warm, delicious chocolate lava? These fancy little cakes are often found in restaurants, but are actually very easy to make from home.

Chocolate Molten Lava Cakes

4 oz chocolate (It’s your choice. If you like milk chocolate, use that. If you like dark or semi, use that.)
1/2 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
6 T flour
2 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Generously grease 4 ramekins.

In a microwave safe bowl, melt together the chocolate and butter for 1 minutes. Whisk the chocolate until mixture has combined and is smooth.

Add the powdered sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla. Stir to combine. Add the flour and stir to combine.

Divide the batter evenly between the ramekins and bake for 13-15 minutes or until the edges are firm and set, but the center is still soft. Let the cakes stand for 2-3 minutes. (It is important to let them sit or they will break when you try to remove them.) Carefully run a knife along the edge of the ramekin and gently invert it onto a plate. Dust with powdered sugar. Serve immediately.
