Cake Batter French Toast
And now…breakfast.
Cake batter French toast topped with a glaze is a fun spin on the old classic and would be an excellent choice for a special birthday breakfast.
We’ve found that using homemade bread for French toast works best because it’s more dense. Store-bought bread tends to soak up too much of the egg/milk mixture, resulting in a soggy middle. Most bakery breads are dense enough and will work well too.
Cake Batter French Toast
Ingredients
For the French Toast:
- 2 Eggs
- 1 cup Milk
- 3/4 cup Yellow Cake Mix
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla
- About half a loaf of bread
For the Glaze Topping:
- 2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 3 T Milk
- 1 T Butter, softened
Instructions
For the French Toast:
Mix eggs, milk, cake mix, and vanilla. Submerge each bread slice in mixture for about 30 seconds. Remove and let excess egg mixture drip off. Place on nonstick skillet. Cook on each side until golden brown.
For the Glaze Topping:
Mix until well combined.
Top with sprinkles for festiveness.
It’s also pretty good without the glaze. Just plain and by itself.
