Whole Wheat Apple-Cinnamon Rolls

Whole Wheat Apple-Cinnamon Rolls

The apple-cinnamon roll.  With a sweet, sweet apple filling, it has no need to boast its strong, yet humble counterpart: cinnamon.  It is made with a very versatile whole wheat bread recipe and a ready-to-use apple pie-like filling.  It’s a perfect treat for Fall.

In our store we have some fairly new products: pastry and cake fillings.  (We apologize for not having them in our online store yet.)  We have several different flavors from apple to cream cheese to strawberry and many more.  They come in a ready-to-use sealed bag.  Just cut a corner and squeeze out the deliciousness onto whatever suits your fancy.

Ingredients

1 recipe whole wheat bread
1 package apple pastry and cake filling*
cinnamon*
2 cups powdered sugar*
3 T milk

*These items can be found in our store.

Instructions

Prepare bread recipe found here.

Divide dough in half and roll each into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick. Spread apple pastry and cake filling thinly over each rectangle to about 1/2-inch of the edges. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Roll length-wise into a log. Seal the seam. Cut each log into 1/2-inch slices and place on a baking sheet.

Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Cool.

Prepare glaze by mixing powdered sugar and milk. Drizzle over each roll. In this case, a little goes a long way. Too much glaze will overpower the apple flavor, so go light.

Enjoy!
